This is the rootnation.org blog space. My name is Stephen James Heffernan. I’ve been a carpenter, a farm hand, an art school drop out, a systems administrator.
I thought about calling this blog “Things that piss me off”, although I am sure there will be pleasant, joyful things I will want to blog about occasionally. Things like programming and web standards and frigging Microsoft and the “Browser Wars”, like the “Hundred Years War” between England and France except longer and more boring … Ok, so maybe that pisses me off as well. I would like to blog about hiking, natural history and the environment, but when I think about it I am thinking that we pretty much screwed the pooch there as well. I can’t think of much thats worth blogging about that doesn’t piss me off, so maybe i’m just an angry mofo, i don’t know.
Mostly, I have to admit that I don’t know crap, and that allot of the time I’m just full of shit. It’s just that I have allot of questions about crap, and shit, and all kinds of stuff. So I thought about calling the blog “What the fuck?” — short for ‘WTF’.
Sometimes I get frustrated at how much I don’t know, at how much there is to learn. I want to put some stuff out there, start a dialog, share some of my opinions… I don’t know — it seems like so much work. It is allot easier to turn on the TV after a hard day at work and just zone out.
I suppose this is what the powers that be want from us, brainless unthinking, TV watching morons who only have half baked opinions and don’t know crap, buying into commodity fetishism and oh so easily manipulated by mass media.
So lets get started.
